The lure of big city amenities coupled with access to the great outdoors brought Jacqui and Dennis Johnston back to their roots. Jacqui teaches yoga and fitness classes, and both enjoy dining out together or with friends. Another Lufkin couple is also ushering in a new season in their lives. In 1992 Rush and Nancy Studinski stopped in Lufkin while en route to check out another town for retirement. They were bowled over by the genuine warmth they felt during their stopover. Their search stopped right there. Whether it’s stitching with the Quilt Guild or flying radio-controlled airplanes, the Studinskis are en-trenched. Their present passion is Kurth Memorial Library. Rush laughs, “I do the dirty work. I organize the books donated for our sale.”  Both the Johnstons and the Studinksis live life abundantly.

Part of Our Story

We’ve Got Just The Ticket!

Lufkin’s a great place for spectator sports. You can catch junior college standouts on the diamond or the court at the Angelina College. The girls throw a mean pitch next door at their new softball facility. Watching from the stands or bleachers is an inexpensive, easily accessible activity for folks of any age!

Out To The Movies

Screen time equals relaxation. Lufkin’s two mega-theaters offer up to 20 first-run movies daily. Cinemark also presents Fathom events on the big screen. From the Metropolitan Opera to concerts to documentaries, there’s something for everyone.

Fridays In The Park

Chicago sang about Saturday in the Park, but Lufkin sings about Fridays! During the Spring and Fall, musicians mosey down to Cotton Square to make merry during lunchtime. Folks from all over town brown bag it for a chance to hear the best in local live music. Lufkin’s Main Street program’s charged with keeping downtown lively and one of the great ways they do it is by providing Entertainment in the Park on Fridays!
